I am the student of H.H. Shri. B.S. Joshi (Batukbhairav Maharaj) and I consider it to be my proud privilege, to give here a brief outline to the life of my great Master.
Shri. B. S. Joshi was born on 28th April 1902 in Pune. His great grandfather H.H. Shri. Dhundiraj Maharaj was also a great yogi who had left his mortal body through the yogic process known as SANJIVAN SAMADHI. His shrine is in the compound of his house in Kasba Peth, Pune. Joshi family enjoyed riches after his birth. Shri Maharaj was physically weak in his childhood and hence his father had arranged a special worship to the family deity Lord Someshwara for his good health. As a result of this his health improved and become so normal that he lived a hale and healthy life up to the age of 75 years.
He studied up to intermediate science but could not complete graduation for reasons best known only by him. From 1923 he started learning yog practice under the guidance of his great Master H. H. Shri Gopal Maharaj Kasbekar. In 1928 he had accompanied his father on the holy pilgrimage to Kashi (Banaras). Subsequently, he also visited holy places in the hearts of the Himalayas. He had face to face meeting with the great Master H.H. Shri Nagnabhairav Maharaj. As per the instructions of H.H. Shri Gopal Maharaj Kasbekar, in 1936, he again visited the Himalayas along with Mr. Lik a Gorman Yogi. After his return from the Himalayas, he resorted to a daily yogic practice from 3 to 7 in the morning and again from 3 to 7 in the evening in a reserved room in his house.
For livelihood he served in the government department for two years. But it was not in his nature to do the government service, hence he started working as a civil contractor. In 1960 as per the order of his great Master H.H. Shri Gopal Maharaj instituted a seat for himself in a special room of his house and laid the foundation of Sandhyashram Yog Practice. He taught proper recitation of the great Gayatri and yogic practice of breath control known as Pranayam. He bestowed his blessings and taught yog practice to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion and nationality.
On 18th March 1977 he suffered from a heart attack and his soul left his mortal body in the morning of 19th March 1977.
He left behind two sons and a daughter. Elder son Shri Gopal held a senior post in defence accounts department. After retirement even in seventies, he is engaged in the yog and meditation practice. Younger son Shri Bindumadhav Joshi is a social worker. He founded the Consumer movement in India and is presently the President of All India. Consumer Welfare Federation.
